Critically Evaluating Competing Ideas and Products

Have you found existing ideas or products that are similar to your idea?  Use this guide to begin evaluating the unique features of your idea and the market penetration.

1st Stage

Identify the critical features of your competition, if you haven’t done this previously using the Inventor’s Pack .

2nd Stage

Identify the limitations of your competition.

3rd Stage

Identify the critical features of your invention.

4th Stage

Describe how your invention overcomes the limitations of your competition.

5th Stage

Complete this process for each competing patent or product that you have found.

6th Stage

Determine how the desirable novel critical features of your idea and how they overcome the limitations of your competition would translate to market penetration.
